Specialist Golf Physiotherapy

EMPC are proud to offer a service that is at the cutting edge of golf technology and development. Golf Fit  is more than simply the assessment and treatment of injuries that occur in golfers. It offers the chance to make a significant step forward in your golf performance.

Golf Fit is based on the principle that there are fundamental physical requirements in terms of range of movement and strength in order to achieve an efficient and consistent golf swing. Golfers can often be quick to buy a new driver, or even take lessons with the professional. Of course, there is nothing wrong with doing these things, indeed they are often very necessary. However, how often do we think about changing our own bodies in order to reduce our handicap. For example, the ideal golf swing requires 45° rotation through the upper trunk and 45° rotation at the pelvis. If the golfer has stiffness and restriction through spinal movement, this will result in compensations, such as swaying at the hips, which often result in inconsistency. This restriction can often be significantly improved through some simple exercises.

The most important aspect of the service is a process called Screening. This initial session is a comprehensive assessment of the golfer including video analysis of posture and swing. The objective is not to assess the golfers swing in a technical aspect, but to evaluate the swing in terms of restriction and muscle imbalance and posture. These problems are identified and a specific individualised programme is initiated. The initial screening session lasts at least one hour.

Subsequent sessions are optional, but in order to get the most out of the experience, usually 3-4 therapeutic sessions are recommended. These follow-up sessions continue the process of addressing restrictions or weaknesses, in order to refine the golfer into the more powerful, balanced individual to maximise player potential.

Technical instruction is also of great importance to becoming a better golfer. If you have a golf professional teaching you, or you think it is time to have a few lessons, your physiotherapist will maintain close communication with the Professional. This will help ensure that there are no movement or technical contradictions, and will enhance the golf learning experience.
