PHYSIOTHERAPY - REHABILITATION

A very important part of physiotherapy treatment is rehabilitation. This is usually needed to re-educate & restore full strength, flexibility and function to enable them to return to work, sport or leisure activity.

Some examples of this are:
When the body experiences injury and pain, even if this is short lived, muscle weakness can occur very quickly. This is one of the body’s responses to pain. It can happen within 24 hours of the onset of pain. For example, an injured knee will lead to the development of weakness in the thigh muscles and a painful low back leads to the development of weakness in the deep back muscles. Full recovery depends on rehabilitating strength in these muscles.

Pain in the low back, neck and shoulders is often associated with jobs that require prolonged use of computer equipment and VDU work. Poor sitting posture in this situation is a major cause of these problems. Postural re-education and rehabilitation is essential to ensure long term relief from pain.
