A very important part of physiotherapy treatment
is rehabilitation. This is usually needed to re-educate &
restore full strength, flexibility and function to enable
them to return to work, sport or leisure activity.
:
When the body experiences injury and pain, even if this is
short lived, muscle weakness can occur very quickly. This
is one of the body’s responses to pain. It can happen
within 24 hours of the onset of pain. For example, an injured
knee will lead to the development of weakness in the thigh
muscles and a painful low back leads to the development of
weakness in the deep back muscles. Full recovery depends on
rehabilitating strength in these muscles.
Pain in the low back, neck and shoulders
is often associated with jobs that require prolonged use of
computer equipment and VDU work. Poor sitting posture in this
situation is a major cause of these problems. Postural re-education
and rehabilitation is essential to ensure long term relief
from pain.
